Preparing for Feast of Christ the King

During this month of November, we typically think we’re getting ready for Thanksgiving, which we are in the secular world. The main feast that falls in the church calendar is that of Christ the King, the end of our liturgical calendar. So as we focus during this month of November and get ready for that feast, I thought it’d be good to focus on what does it mean to say Jesus is my King? As Americans, we don’t have Kings to relate to. We have to read about them in history books. The Kings expected obedience. Am I really obedient to Christ not just when I want to be not just when Christ’s teachings go along with what I want to do. Not just when it’s easy. But am I truly obedient to Christ? Meaning is he my head? Do I follow him in everything that I do? I think most of us, when we ask ourselves that question realize they’re still those areas of our lives that we’re not really completely obedient. Jesus isn’t the one in charge, he’s not the King. I’m still trying to sit on the throne and wear the crown. And as we prepare for the Celebration of Christ the King, it’s good for us to ask ourselves as Jesus says, you can’t serve two masters. Are we serving Christ as our King, or are we serving ourselves? Not a sermon, not a homily. But just something to think about
