Gospel: Matthew 25:14-30
We are unique individuals. No two people are alike. It is unlikely that we have exactly the same talents, character or personality. God’s gifts are different for every person, and He does not expect the same response from everybody. God’s gifts to us are not finished products. We do not see our religion as a treasure which we bury deep in our heart or hold on to very firmly. Our gifts are meant to bear fruit in our environment or among people whom we are supposed to love. It is not meant only for us but for others. It awakens our sense of responsibility for our gifts to blossom.
All of us have gifts. Maybe we did not earn a diploma, but we have a strong body to work, a keen sense for business or a skill for a particular trade. We too easily compare ourselves with others and notice talents in others which we miss. It may make us jealous or overlook the talents we have. People who feel worthless are often those who do not recognize their own gifts. Yet happiness is closely connected with the use of our talents. There are many people who received little but made good use of it through their industriousness. They are often rewarded with more happiness than those who received many things and are never contented. Gifts are not equal but effort and generosity can be equal.
