Jesus sends his disciples away in the boat while He goes by himself alone to pray. They were out on the open, and the boat was being tossed by the waves because the wind was against it.

People were searching for Jesus on foot when He withdrew from the crowd. When Jesus saw the crowd, He was moved with pity and responded to their needs.

The kingdom of God is apparently not discovered after a frantic search. The laborer and the merchant made their discovery rather by accident while going about their usual work or business.
