John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. Jesus did not need to be baptized as
a sign of repentance or conversion. He is the Son of God before His conception
through the Holy Spirit. He totally belonged to his Father and no sin could have

The third Sunday of Advent is traditionally called Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday. The Gospel focuses on John the Baptist who had been teaching the people that it was not enough to have Abraham as father, which means, they are God’s chosen people. He confronted them with their daily life. One must be a tree that bears good fruits.

We start once again a new liturgical year, the season of Advent, remembering the great
events of our history of salvation. The four weeks of preparation for Christmas is an
invitation for us to live by hope because believers live with a promise.
