14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reading I: Ezekiel 2:2-5

Jesus visits his hometown of Nazareth with a message of love, but he was not accepted. He met opposition and unbelief instead. They saw him only as a townmate whom they had known for thirty years. He was the carpenter, and they knew his family. They could not see beyond that even if he had made a name as a teacher, for he had a group of disciples following him. He even worked miracles, and his reputation spread, that made people invite him to their synagogues. Yet, his visit was met with opposition from his townmates.
At times we do not listen either to people who mean well to us. We are very critical when somebody’s teaching intends to change our lifestyle, we look at once for a loophole to break down the speaker’s credibility. We no longer look for the truth, but for justification of our behavior. We are no longer receptive to the good news which liberates us. We have a ready ear for people who talk against our religion, but we make no effort to know the true teaching of our church.
