“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God, have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.” (Jn 14:1-2)
Are there many rooms in our heart? Is there room for others, or is it filled up with our own concerns that nobody can take refuge there? Our words and actions indicate how much place there is for others. If every decision is made dependent on our own liking or disliking, there is no place for others, and we use our neighbor only as a steppingstone for our ambition. If resentment has taken root in our heart, there is no room for those who plead for forgiveness or even for those who intercede for them. We act then like somebody who keeps all broken plates and cups on the shelf instead of disposing of them to make space for useful things. The past is the past. We do not keep a withered rose for we will never enjoy its beauty anymore and only hurt our hand on its thorns. If we give people another chance and make room again in our heart, we will enjoy the beauty of a fresh rose and no longer notice the thorns.
