The kingdom of God is apparently not discovered after a frantic search. The laborer and the merchant made their discovery rather by accident while going about their usual work or business. For some, knowing God is a natural flow that came from being born and from growing in a God-fearing family while for others, knowing God was the product of a struggle for meaning. Discovering the kingdom of heaven is not a reward for human effort and a painstaking search. It is a gift from God to people in their normal daily activities. The man discovered the treasure while going about his daily work. We meet Christ in the Church, in prayer and in the Bible, but we mainly discover him in fulfilling our regular duties. It is in going about our task with a clean and generous heart that the kingdom of heaven is coming.
