“The apostles cried out, “… “Increase our faith.” The apostles asked Jesus for an increase in faith. They felt inadequate in their following of Jesus. It is obvious that his disciples cannot just be satisfied with obeying the commandments. They need disposition which is alert to the will of God and the needs of others. Jesus assures us we can do it if we have faith.
Jesus says that true faith can make us do impossible things. He commanded His listeners to speak, to command, to utter a word of instruction. His example illustrates the faith He expects. He reminds us that words have power. Words do not only communicate but they have power to achieve what they communicate. There are many things which we consider impossible and have lost hope like for example that of a particular sinner will repent and start a new life, listen to good reason or consider the welfare of others. All we need is faith even as small as a mustard seed which can grow into a tree. It simply means we must give God a chance, no matter how little we are holding in our hand.”
