The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed reminds us that the sacrament of baptism has not only given us a new identity but also a new destiny. Jesus was sent by the Father to free us from sin and death and give us eternal life. Through His death and resurrection, Christ has taken the sting of death. When one is baptized into Christ, one undergoes death to sin in order to rise with him to new life. Since Baptism gives us the assurance of future resurrection, our life does not end up in the tomb but destined for immortality.
We gratefully remember and pray for all the faithful departed that they may soon share the glory of heaven. We have become part of the Body of Christ which is characterized by communion among all its members. The commemoration of All Soul’s Day reminds us that we are connected to one another, because the special bond among the members of the Church cannot be destroyed even by death.
