To Live Responsibly

The message of today’s gospel is for us to live responsibly before the troubled times, “the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.” The question is not when these will happen but what we do now to let God’s kingdom come in our midst. The intention of the text is not to scare the reader but to give him assurance that no matter what happens in life or in the world he may trust in God.

Jesus warns us not to listen to false prophets or to people who claim they are the Messiah. The Lord spoke clearly when He said, “See that you do not be deceived for many will come in my name, saying ‘I am he, and the time has come.” Do not follow them. “Nobody knows the time of the end of the world. It is a question about which we may not waste our time. The Christian remains a person of hope, who does not abandon his responsibilities, even when the sailing gets rough, for he trusts the Lord.
