Holy Family of Nazareth

Feast of the Holy Family

Today we celebrate the Holy Family of Nazareth into which Jesus was born. When He accepted to become one of us, He also agreed to grow up in a human setting. The Holy Family can teach us family life in a very simple and meaningful way. In their life together, they cooperated with each other with perfect understanding and harmony, supported each other and shared joys and sorrows together. We owe much of what we are today to the kind of love our parents showed each other. Many beautiful things we want to share with our children will also be fruits of marital love. They lived in a communion of love. That kind of relationship makes a house into a home and a household into a family.

One of the commandments is that we honor our mother and father, those who have given us life. They are representatives of God, entrusted with the right and duty to exercise care and concern over our lives. The family should be a great school whereby we learn to love and live according to the ways of God. Parents should help their children, by word and example, to cultivate the spirit and attitude suitable for home and family. They should believe in their children, nurture them, give them guidance, confidence and hope. In the same way children should relate to their parents with love, respect, trust, understanding, obedience, humility and kindness. Good children.
